BEC Leader’s Assembly Postponed Due to Zamboanga Crisis

Zamboanga City – The scheduled BEC Leader’s Assembly (BLA) on September 12 – 14, 2013 at the Lay Formation Center of San Antonio Ma. Claret Parish in Zamboanga City had been postponed to another date that will be announced later on according to Fr. Pedro Cleofe, CMF, head of the Biblical Commission due to the current crisis in Zamboanga City inflicted by the MNLF early Monday morning, September 9, 2013. There are no flights in and out of Zamboanga and no sea crafts from Basilan and vice versa.

Meanwhile, regarding the current situation in the city, gunshots were heard and helicopters were flying over the area early this morning according to the youth of San Atonio Ma. Claret Parish. On the other hand, San Antonio Ma. Claret Parish under the leadership of Fr. Angel Angeles II, CMF, the Parish Priest, opted to what is most urgent and effective means of living out the Gospel: address first the needs of the displaced families and evacuees in the nearby grandstand where thousands of fleeing residents are staying right now. The parish is now asking favor from people who wish to donate food and goods for the evacuees to send them to the Parish Office anytime of the day. The Formation Center had been thought of being used as an evacuation center but due to the scheduled BEC Leaders’ Asembly, it had been reserved. Now that the BLA had been postponed, the parish might convert its place into an evacution center should there be no more space in the grandstand as it had been thought earlier.
