Claret Zamboanga Celebrates Parish Fiesta: A Day of Solidarity

Zamboanga City – Serving the people with blazing hearts, the Claret parish of Zamboanga celebrated its annual parish feast last October 24, 2013. The celebration commenced with a procession which began at 6:00am from the Canelar Baranggay hall then followed by a holy mass which was presided by Fr. Mauricio T. Ulep, CMF, the local superior, together with the other Claretian Missionaries assigned in this city. An annual “Breakfast for All” followed right after the Eucharistic celebration at the Formation center.

With the crises that Zamboanga City experienced for the past months, the parish decided to postpone its well celebrated annual fiesta activities for some security reasons but it still pursued with its mission of reaching out to people most especially to those who are in deep need.

After the parish celebration, the Claret school employees in coordination with the Zamboanga Basilan Integrated Development Alliance (ZABIDA) had a Day of Solidarity with the evacuees who are temporarily housed at Tetua Central School. The event was still a part of the parish fiesta celebration which was further highlighted by visiting the homeless and gave them therapeutic acitivities such as art therapy for the kids and Origami-making for the mothers and a piece of the celebration like giveaways. Hence, these activities were considered as a stress debriefing for the families affected by the traumatic experiences from the Zamboanga stand-off.

Words of wisdom and enlightenment were given off by different personalities like Councilor Myra Paz-Abubakar, Fr. Angel C. Calvo, CMF and OIC-ASDS, Mr. Julieto Fernandez. The day of Solidarity ended with a community song entitled “Lord Heal Our Land” which was at the same interpreted through a dance by the MAPEH High School teachers of Claret Zamboanga.
