In 2005, the first Bible Centre was created in the Claretian Retreat House in San José, Costa Rica. Here “popular and communal reading of the Word of God” is practised.
We also study the Bible in workshops, in coordination with other church bodies dedicated to the investigation of the Word of God. More than 250 people have come to participate in these study workshops. Finally, we have created a itinerant team which takes these reflections about the Word to other places in Costa Rica.
As a result of this study and community reading of the Word, and working on shared Mission, members of the Bible Centre have discovered the need for real commitment to Justice and Peace. Specifically, they have begun to accompany a group of Nicaraguan immigrants who have arrived in Costa Rica. They have created a small colony near the Bible Centre and from there the immigrants are encouraged and assisted to find housing and a means of livelihood.
For the future, trying to go more deeply into study, to enrich the ‘popular, community reading’ of the Word; and to continue accompanying the immigrants, always from the Word of God.
It is a constant effort to promote the love of the Word of God, listened to in brotherly community and with full freedom of spirit; a Word which leads to commitment
