The first day of the XIII Provincial Chapter of the Claretian Missionaries-Philippine Province started with a Bible Enthronement at 8:00 o’clock in the morning led by Fr. Victor F. Sadaya, CMF, the Provincial Prefect of Spirituality, a fitting way of reminding the Chapter members of their Claretian Charism as Missionary Servants of the Word and of centering the Chapter on the Word of God.
It was followed by the welcome remarks from the Provincial Superior, Fr. Leo M. Dalmao, CMF. Then at 9:00 o’clock in the morning, Fr. Matthew Vattamatam, CMF (the General Prefect of Formation and the official delegate of the Superior General to preside the XIII Provincial Chapter) facilitated the Recollection. Fr. Matthew invited all the members of the Chapter to look at the pressing issues and realities of our time and how the members of the Chapter could continue their evangelizing and prophetic presence. He also invited the body to read and reflect on the previous Chapter Document, the working document of the XIII Provincial Chapter as well as the August 13, 2012 Circular Letter of the Superior General entitled Missionaries with a special note of focusing on the challenges and demands of our mission today. The morning Recollection ended with the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel.
Lunch and siesta followed.
The afternoon session opened at 2:30 PM with a song led by Bro. Nicer O. Natulla, CMF, invoking the Holy Spirit for guidance and inspiration.
Fr. Matthew conveyed the warm greetings from our Superior General, Fr. Josep M. Abella, CMF; then, he read the letter of Fr. Abella stressing among others the need to have more “depth” in relationship to God, in analyzing issues, in community living, in doing missionary projects and calling each one for missionary availability to do the priorities of the Congregation.
Then the official start of the Chapter was declared. The reading of pertinent directives coming from the Constitutions and Directories in conducting a Chapter followed. After which, the election of the Chapter Secretary was done. Fr. Amador Tumbaga, CMF was chosen as Chapter Secretary, with Fr. Jonathan Bitoy, CMF and Fr. Efren Limpo, CMF as his collaborators.
The rules of the XIII Provincial Chapter were then reviewed and approved with some corrections. The two moderators appointed by the Presiding Officer were Fr. James Castro, CMF and Fr. Angel Calvo, CMF. The various tasks under the supervision of the President are as follows:

Then, the Provincial Secretary, Fr. Amador Tumbaga, CMF gave a power point presentation of the Provincial Government Report specifically tackling on basic statistics, Governance, Formation, Spirituality and Apostolate. Fr. Santiago Gonzalez, the Provincial Prefect of Economy, reported on the economic status of the Province comprehensively.
After the reports, five names were asked by the President from the body to specifically study the Report on Economy, the results of which will be presented tomorrow before the group. Then, the body was asked to personally study the Government and Economy Reports in preparation for the group discussions the following day.
The day’s sessions closed at 6:30 PM with a Eucharistic Celebration presided by the Provincial Superior, Fr. Leo M. Dalmao, CMF with his Council as co-presiders.
Dinner followed and the meeting of the Coordinating Commission and the counting of sondeo were done.
