Today 10th August 2012, the Prefects of Formation from 31 major organisms are gathered together at Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania for the encounter of the Claretian Prefects of Formation under the leadership of Fr. Mathew Vattamattam, the General Prefect of Formation.
We begin the day with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 7.00 AM. Fr. Mathew Vattamattam presided over the Eucharist.
After the breakfast we gathered in the conference hall at 9.00 AM for the initial acts of the encounter. After which the letter of Fr. Joseph Ma Abella, the Superior General was read out. Then he addressed the participants through Skype.
Then one minute silence was observed for the repose of the soul of Fr. Rordrigues from Brazil who died the previous day. He was ordained 4 months back. Let his soul rest in peace.
Then we went into groups based on Conferences to identify 3 challenges in formation. The conclusions were written in posters and pasted on the notice board.
Fr. Mathew Vattamattam, then presented on the theme “Our presence in Africa”. He also presented the formation scenario of Africa. Then we had a brainstorming session on what will happen to our congregation if we will not have a good formation program. The participants were invited to use their creativity to formulate responses. Group discussion followed and responses presented in common.
In the afternoon we went into groups to discuss about different stages of formation such as Vocation Promotion, Pre-Novitiate and Novitiate, Post Novitiate and ongoing formation based on the SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats) analysis.
