Prefects of Formation Encounter Day 6

We begin the day with the Solemn Eucharist as we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We had the various parts of the mass in English, German, Polish and Italian and a creative liturgy to celebrate the Solemnity.

Today’s sessions were moderated by Fr. Damasus of Indonesia. We continue with the reflection on Obedience. The presenter Fr. Jose Sanchez invited the participants to go in groups to discuss the issue of students wearing short pants for prayer. The discussion was mainly to observe the process rather than the content. Many observed that obedience demands discernment and dialogue.

After the tea break we began with a new topic “Formation for living celibacy.” The resource person was Fr. Bhyju from the province of Chennai, India. After a brief presentation there was discussion on various aspects of living celibacy and the struggles one goes through, what could be done in formation etc. The groups were divided according to the continents and after the discussion there was a presentation in the hall. All the groups recognized the need to deepen our relationship with Christ and our relationship with community members as a way to live joyfully and faithfully our vow of Chastity.

Towards the end of the day’s session, Fr. Mathew invited the participants to arrive at certain conclusions regarding the topics dealt so far so that we could draw certain insights for formation.

After supper we had the presentations from the major organisms of ASIA: East Asia, Indonesia and East Timor, South Korea, the Philippines, and the organisms in India. The presentations were very interesting and informative.
